“The Holy Grail will endure longer.” Prof. Cenckiewicz briefly on the annex to the WSI report

Yesterday, de facto, Gen. Andrzej Kowalski [Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau] said that this annex to the report on the liquidation of the WSI will not be published [for now]. “So the Holy Grail will endure longer, pushing the debate on whether the annex should be published or not to 2027-2028,” said today on TV Republika Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, former head of the National Security Bureau.

At the end of April this year, the Chancellery of the President announced that work aimed at declassifying the document had entered its final phase – obtaining opinions from the Speakers of the Sejm and the Senate. However, Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska returned the document without reviewing its contents.

On Wednesday on TV Republika, Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau, Gen. Andrzej Kowalski, stated that “political and media circles [linked to the former WSI] have very clearly closed ranks and launched an offensive aimed at blocking any possibility of processing this document and bringing the process to completion.”

“This allows us to put forward the thesis that an annex written 20 years ago must still be valid. There must be things there that will once again shed new light on Polish reality,” he said.

Gen. Kowalski also referred to the issue of the Prime Minister’s countersignature in relation to publishing the annex. Some opinions indicate that the binding countersignature is the one provided by Jarosław Kaczyński as head of government, allowing the publication of the report on the liquidation of the WSI.

“Let’s leave that to lawyers and the electorate. The elections must be decided in such a way that the new government is right-wing, and if the Prime Minister’s countersignature is needed, the Prime Minister will provide it,” he indicated.

Cenckiewicz: The Holy Grail will endure

Today on TV Republika, former head of the National Security Bureau, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, recalled his 2015 text, in which he pointed out that in the final years of the presidency of Lech Kaczyński, the issue of a countersignature never appeared in public discourse as a significant obstacle to publishing the annex to the WSI liquidation report.

“This was not the main issue among the obstacles related to the possible publication of the document,” he assessed.

“Yesterday, de facto, Gen. Andrzej Kowalski said that this annex to the WSI liquidation report will not be published [for now]. So the Holy Grail will endure longer, pushing the debate on whether the annex should be published or not to 2027-2028,” Prof. Cenckiewicz added.

Referring to the approaching 20th anniversary of the dissolution of the Military Information Services, Cenckiewicz stated that “part of the patriotic camp does not understand this.”

“Part of the patriotic camp does not understand what happened 20 years ago and, due to its opportunism and stopping halfway, considers this issue to be merely historical, even absurd, guarded only by ‘a madman’ Antoni Macierewicz and, to some extent, also Cenckiewicz, Piotr Woyciechowski, and Andrzej Kowalski. But it is a matter that has passed, and like with that Tusk on the pier – it resurfaces whenever there is an opportunity,” he added.
