The Late Ryszard Kapuściński – The Man Who Built the Community of “Gazeta Polska” Clubs

Ryszard Kapuściński, the long-serving president of the “Gazeta Polska” Clubs, has passed away, leaving an indelible mark on Polish social life. His dedication to building a community that has endured for two decades has been widely recognized by his collaborators and club members, who saw in him not just a mentor but also a true leader. Kapuściński will be laid to rest at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Krakow.

Remembering Ryszard Kapuściński

Ryszard Kapuściński played a pivotal role in the development of the “Gazeta Polska” Clubs, which have been an integral part of Poland’s social landscape for over 20 years. Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor-in-chief of Gazeta Polska, noted in his column that it was thanks to individuals like Kapuściński that a space was created where Poles could pursue their social aspirations. Kapuściński was not only an organizer but also an inspiration, helping to revive civic movements shattered by communism. His ability to reconcile people with differing viewpoints was the cornerstone upon which the Clubs were built.

A Great Mentor and Friend

“Ryszard Kapuściński was a remarkable mentor and a man of extraordinary charisma,” recalled Ewa and Anna Wójcik, who worked with him closely for years. Paweł Piekarczyk, coordinator of the international Clubs, emphasized how Kapuściński taught him to “calm emotions” and build a sense of community. His selflessness and commitment to the cause of Poland were an inspiration not only to his closest collaborators but also to entire generations of Poles, who, thanks to him, could pursue their civic passions.
