“The Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant project has been halted and will not move forward until we get rid of this mess and take power back,” said on Saturday the vice-chairman of Law and Justice (PiS) Przemysław Czarnek. He stressed that if his party wins the upcoming parliamentary elections, it will pursue “major investment projects” such as the aforementioned plant.
At a meeting with residents of Konin, Czarnek spoke about “horror bills”. In his view, high costs for Poles are caused, among other things, by “leftists from the European Union through the ETS”.
The vice-chairman of Law and Justice (PiS) emphasized that, according to the previous government’s plans, construction of the Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant could have begun in 2028.
“[…] it would have been a huge opportunity for many jobs, well-paid ones, for modern technologies, for a center of international cooperation. This power plant, Konin-Pątnów, in this city, which is being degraded by KOD activists from Civic Platform, which has lost 20,000 residents over the last 25 years… they are the ones who stopped it”, he said.
He added that unemployment in Konin County has already reached 10 percent.
“10 percent of people in poverty, without work, and then thousands more people, residents of Konin and Konin County, are waiting and fearing for their jobs. These people went and voted for Tusk, but they also voted for the current local authorities of Konin or Konin County, who are supposedly writing a petition saying they want the Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant”, he continued.
“I hereby inform you that the Koreans have withdrawn from cooperation because they saw a red light for cooperation on the construction of the Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant. The project has been halted and will not move forward until we get rid of this mess, take power back, and immediately return to building the Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant”, he said.
As he added: “we do not want the Brussels ETS, we are getting out of it, we are leaving immediately”. – “We do not want an energy mix that pushes ideological decarbonization in Poland, which Konin is also suffering from”, he stated.
“We will save the middle class in Poland and return to major investment projects, to the Konin-Pątnów nuclear power plant for Konin and for Poland”, he declared.
