“They Counted on Keeping It Secret.” Opposition MP Slams Civic Platform Politicians

“Donald Tusk’s strategy throughout this entire crisis has been to wait it out and, if necessary, divert attention. In terms of individual criminal liability, the main suspect is Dr. Kacprzyk. But on the political level, I believe we are dealing with an entire network of politicians, primarily from Civic Platform (PO), said Michał Wawer, an MP from the Confederation, during the program “Michał #Rachoń” on TV Republika.

Scandal at Southern Hospital

Information revealed in recent days about irregularities at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital has raised questions not only about the hospital’s operations but also about the responsibility of those overseeing it. At the center of the controversy are Rafał Trzaskowski, the Warsaw city authorities, and the national government. On Thursday, the issue was discussed during a session of the Warsaw City Council, where the mayor of the capital was forced to explain the circumstances surrounding the scandal.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk suggested that the credibility of whistleblower Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski from Southern Hospital as a witness “appears to be questionable,” even though prosecutors are not scheduled to interview the doctor and his legal counsel until Monday.

“Tusk Is Using a Strategy of Waiting It Out and Diverting Attention”

Michał Wawer, an MP from the Confederation, commented on the case during the program “Michał #Rachoń.”

“It is a very unusual practice in criminal proceedings for the Prime Minister of Poland to publicly decide on the credibility of a witness, essentially because that witness refused to testify without the presence of his legal counsel, which, given the current realities in which Poland operates, is completely understandable,” the politician said.

In his opinion, Tusk is pursuing a strategy of waiting out the crisis and diverting public attention.

“There are attempts to shift the focus of this entire hospital scandal and direct public anger toward the whistleblower, Dr. Jędrzejewski. We have the issue of political appointments, the mysterious deaths in the emergency department, and the doctor who, despite lacking the necessary qualifications, effectively managed the emergency department as a political appointee. Rafał Trzaskowski’s most natural response was to refer the matter to the prosecutor’s office, and that was the right move. However, it is clear that other instructions have since come down from Donald Tusk,” he said.

According to Wawer, “Tusk and Trzaskowski counted on being able to keep the whole affair secret, just as they have probably managed to keep many similar scandals across the country under wraps.”

“Even if they find something compromising about Dr. Jędrzejewski, that does not absolve everything that had already been revealed. What should be done about it? In a properly functioning state, the prosecutor’s office should investigate the matter, clarify the facts, and identify everyone responsible. We know that under current conditions, where the prosecution service is heavily politicized and subordinate to a minister in Donald Tusk’s government, we cannot count on that. We are still waiting for Civic Platform’s (PO) unfulfilled promise from its ‘100 Concrete Promises’ to separate the offices of Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice. Donald Tusk somehow magically forgot about that promise as soon as he came to power, because it is very convenient for the government to control the prosecution service,” he stated.

He added that “on the level of individual criminal responsibility, the main suspect is Dr. Kacprzyk, but on the political level we are dealing with an entire network of politicians, primarily from Civic Platform (PO).”
