Today is the anniversary of the Gubałówka cable-funicular in Zakopane

The all-season Gubałówka cable-funicular in Zakopane was launched on December 20, 1938. It was the second such invention in Poland, after the funicular railway Góra Parkowa in Krynica-Zdrój. What is interesting, it was put into service after only 168 days of construction.

The Gubałówka Hill Funicular is located in Zakopane, Poland and ascends the Gubałówka mountain. It is operated by PKL, Polish Cable Lines or Polskie Koleje Linowe.

Gubałówka (1,120 m or 3,675 ft) is a mountain above the Polish town of Zakopane and it is a popular tourist attraction, offering commanding views of the Tatra Mountains across the valley below.

Polish Cableways is also an 80-year-old company and one of the biggest employers in Podhale with over 200 employees. PKL’s priority is sustainable development, combining further investments and broadening of the tourist offer while preserving the environment.

PKL currently operates in seven resorts in the Tatras and Beskids: Kasprowy Wierch, Gubałówka, Jaworzyna Krynicka, Góra Parkowa, Mosorny Groń, Palenica and Góra Żar.

Yesterday, there was the 85th anniversary of the Góra Parkowa cable-funicular. The railway was put into service on December 8, 1937, and the initiator of the project was Engineer Aleksander Bobkowski. The first tourists went to Góra Parkowa by funicular railway on December 19, 1937.

On this occassion, different tasks have been prepared for each month, and anyone who creates a video or gif will be able to take part in the competition. In December, the participants will have a chance to show creativity and submit original wishes on the occasion of the 85th birthday of Góra Parkowa.

It is worth following the website GoraParkowa.pl and the social media of PKL because there will be even more competitions and surprises.
