PiS MP Jarosław Wieczorek emphasized that Civic Platform politicians have failed to deliver on their election promises — a situation that, he said, was clearly evident in Zabrze. The city’s mayor, Agnieszka Rupniewska, was just removed from office in a referendum, with nearly 93 percent of participating voters supporting her dismissal.
“This kind of overwhelming reaction from residents shows just how frustrated they were. People were tired of unfulfilled commitments,” Wieczorek said. “It’s worth noting that Rafał Trzaskowski is also a local government official. And it’s not out of the question that his political future might take a similarly grim turn.”
According to Wieczorek, the outcome in Zabrze is a strong signal. “Today, the people of Zabrze — and of Silesia more broadly — made it clear: we don’t want Civic Platform-affiliated officials in charge. That message could hardly be more direct.”
He also praised the residents of Zabrze for their courage in acting just a year into Rupniewska’s term, taking decisive steps to influence the future of their city and demanding change.
“This might be the first in a series of red cards shown to Civic Platform politicians in the coming weeks — perhaps as early as May 18 or June 1,” Wieczorek added, referencing the upcoming first and likely second rounds of presidential elections. On Sunday, Zabrze voters officially removed Mayor Rupniewska from office.
