Trzaskowski on the Brink: Frustration and Falling Support Shake Civic Coalition

Several recent polls clearly show that Rafał Trzaskowski – the Civic Coalition’s presidential candidate (as well as the entire coalition) – is significantly losing support. This troubling trend, just weeks before the presidential election, is said to be causing “terrible frustration” within Donald Tusk’s party structures.

In recent days, public opinion has been stirred by surveys showing a major slump for the Civic Coalition’s candidate. Experts and social media users alike agree that Trzaskowski’s declining ratings are the result of the presidential debates. He failed to attend two out of three debates (one of which was organized by his own team), and public opinion polls show that Poles clearly did not appreciate his absence.

Recent surveys indicate that Trzaskowski has lost as much as 8 percentage points compared to polls conducted before the debates took place.

Trzaskowski vs. Nawrocki: The Gap Narrows

The situation looks very different for Karol Nawrocki, the civic candidate for president. Not only has he reduced the distance to his main rival, but his support is also on the rise.

According to a United Surveys poll for Wirtualna Polska published on April 23, the difference between the two leading candidates now stands at just 4 percentage points!

Civic Coalition’s Collapse!

And the bad news for Donald Tusk’s party doesn’t end there. The latest United Surveys poll for Wirtualna Polska shows that Law and Justice (PiS) currently enjoys the most support, with 29.6 percent of respondents backing them. Compared to early April, Jarosław Kaczyński’s party has gained 0.8 percentage points. As Wirtualna Polska highlights, this is the first United Surveys poll since January 2025 in which PiS has taken the lead.

Experts and opposition politicians agree: it is Rafał Trzaskowski who is dragging the Civic Coalition down.

“There Is Terrible Frustration”

Today, Wprost reports that the atmosphere within the Civic Coalition is grim. News like plummeting poll numbers certainly isn’t helping.

The weekly cites excerpts from a conversation with a Civic Coalition politician who wished to remain anonymous. They reveal that “there is terrible frustration within the Platform.”

Moreover, Rafał Trzaskowski’s campaign team, despite running a high-energy campaign, is reportedly struggling with dwindling financial resources.

“They say the financial situation isn’t looking good. The Platform is spending money on itself and there isn’t enough left for everything in the campaign. Now they are trying to get a loan,” Wprost quotes the Civic Coalition politician as saying.

This is particularly noteworthy, considering that the December 13 coalition is still blocking the release of public funding to Law and Justice, making things even tougher for Karol Nawrocki’s campaign – a campaign supported by the largest opposition group.

“Rafał Has Been Hit”

That’s not all. According to the source, the debate in Końskie negatively affected Rafał Trzaskowski’s mental health. The politician states bluntly: “Rafał has been hit. You can see it in him.”

“A few months ago, I said that for Rafał to lose the election, a plane would have to crash. That plane has crashed. The question is whether the campaign team can pick themselves up after this,” says another Civic Coalition politician quoted by Wprost.
