Tusk Attacks Nawrocki, Warning of “Mortal Danger to Poland”—Receives Sharp Replies

Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted a statement on the X platform attacking presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, accusing him of supporting “capitulation and the division of Ukraine.” Tusk’s allegations sparked widespread criticism.

Tusk Criticizes Karol Nawrocki

Karol Nawrocki, supported by PiS (Law and Justice), announced a planned discussion with Sławomir Mentzen, signaling support for several points raised by the Confederation politician. Two of these directly involve Ukraine:

“I will not allow Polish troops to be sent to Ukraine.”
“I will not sign a law ratifying Ukraine’s accession to NATO.”

Using these declarations, Tusk strongly criticized Nawrocki on platform X:

“Putin’s primary demand towards Ukraine and the West is to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. Nawrocki eagerly endorsed this demand. Next will be the capitulation and division of Ukraine. He’ll endorse that too. This is mortally dangerous for Poland,” wrote Tusk.

“Your Allies Oppose Ukraine’s NATO Membership”

Tusk’s statement provoked immediate responses. PiS MP Zbigniew Kuźmiuk directly countered Tusk’s allegations:

“Your colleagues, German Chancellors Schulz and Merz, along with President Macron, are openly opposed to Ukraine’s NATO membership. You couldn’t convince them during your 1.5 years in power. You had the chance during your long trip to Kyiv, but apparently, you traveled in a different compartment,” Kuźmiuk replied to the Prime Minister.

MP Monika Pawłowska remarked that Tusk’s involvement in Rafał Trzaskowski’s campaign was “undoubtedly the best thing that could happen to Karol Nawrocki.”

Other notable comments included:

“Are Nawrocki and Confederation now demanding Ukraine’s capitulation and division? Seriously? Soon we’ll be back to the old narrative of ‘PiS and Confederation are aligned with Russia, plotting to partition Ukraine with Putin.’ You lasted quite long, I’ll admit.”

“Recall how willingly you always fulfilled Putin’s demands. You can pretend otherwise, but everyone knows where your sympathies lie. The real mortal danger to Poland is you as Prime Minister and Civic Coalition in power.”

“Ukraine will not join NATO, and I even doubt it will join the EU. Polish farmers and entrepreneurs will not allow it. We do not want to become an economically failing country but rather compete with Germany. Such moves benefit grain oligarchs, agricultural moguls, cheaper labor markets, and businesses relocating from Poland to Ukraine—it’s a disaster. You should fight for Poland, not Ukraine.”

“The fact is Ukraine won’t join NATO, and you know this very well. Cheap populism.”
