Tusk to Ride Into Łomża Rail Reopening – A Project Launched by the Previous Government

“Rail service is returning to Łomża after 33 years. The major railway investment was initiated under the previous government. – Today they will likely stand in the front row,” said former Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk (Law and Justice (PiS)) about politicians from the ruling coalition who intend to celebrate the great success. At the head of that row, as is already known, will be Prime Minister Donald Tusk himself.

On Sunday, 14 June, with the introduction of the summer timetable adjustment, rail connections will return to Łomża after 33 years. A day earlier, Prime Minister Donald Tusk will take part in the first train journey from Ostrołęka to Łomża in over three decades.

For several days, opposition politicians have been reminding the public who actually worked to restore rail service to Łomża.

“In 2019, the “Rail Plus” infrastructure programme was created during the time Law and Justice (PiS) was in power. That was when the process of preparing documentation and financing for this major investment began, and after 33 years this investment will reach its conclusion,” said MP Bogumiła Olbryś (PiS) at a press conference yesterday.

She added that the preparatory process related to the “Rail Plus” programme was managed by the then Minister of Infrastructure, Andrzej Adamczyk.

Adamczyk: “This became possible thanks to a decision by the PiS government”

“This event, which the residents of the region have been waiting for over 30 years – the restoration of the railway line to Łomża – became possible thanks to the decision of the PiS government to prepare the Rail Plus Act. President Duda signed this act, and the process of selecting projects submitted by regional governments began”, Adamczyk pointed out.

He added that the Podlaskie regional government, which at the time was governed by Law and Justice (PiS), submitted the project to restore rail service to Łomża. “And thus began an investment that revived hope among residents for a return to normality,” said Adamczyk.

The former minister also, in a way, predicted what will happen on Saturday, saying:

“You will see many ladies and gentlemen MPs who had little to do with this project – I mean the current ruling coalition of 13 December. When we were adopting the Rail Plus Act, they were critical of it. Today they will likely stand in the front row”.

As it turns out, at the head of that row will be Prime Minister Donald Tusk himself. The journey in which he will take part will be a special train operated by Polregio – there will be 140 passengers on board, including the head of government.
