“In recent days, we have observed an increased number of provocations—both in the media and, in our opinion, orchestrated by the security services,” wrote Robert Bąkiewicz, the initiator of the Border Defense Movement, on social media. Is this the result of the way Prime Minister Donald Tusk speaks about those defending the border?
In recent weeks, reports have been coming in from various Polish towns about illegal migrants walking the streets—or being placed in facilities unfit for their stay, such as orphanages, where foreigners allegedly impose their own rules. All of this is happening due to migrants being transported into Poland by German authorities.
At a time when the Polish government is failing to act to protect the safety of Polish citizens from the influx of migrants, the Border Defense Movement is stepping in. This growing group of patriots is regularly reporting cases that require urgent intervention. However, this seems to displease Donald Tusk, who has repeatedly criticized the border defenders.
The government has—finally—announced plans to implement border checks on the Polish-German frontier. However, this move has already sparked growing commentary, with many calling it a public relations stunt.
Bąkiewicz: Surge in Provocations
Following numerous offensive remarks made by Donald Tusk about the Border Defense Movement—referring to them, for instance, as “militias”—the number of provocations targeting border patrols appears to be rising. Robert Bąkiewicz shared this information on social media:
“In recent days, we have observed an increased number of provocations—both in the media and, in our opinion, orchestrated by the security services. We firmly declare that all activities of the Border Defense Movement are conducted lawfully and within the framework of constitutionally guaranteed civil rights,” Bąkiewicz stated.
He continued:
“Our patrols have contributed to exposing illegal actions by German services and have provided real support to Polish institutions in countering crimes along the border.”
Bąkiewicz also announced that:
“All accusations currently being made in the media or by politicians are treated as unfounded slander. Regardless of whether they come from the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Sejm, or media operatives—every such statement will be met with a legal response.”
He concluded by saying:
“Any attempts to link us with illegal activities reported in the media are lies and may be part of a coordinated provocation.”
