“This Easter will be exceptionally expensive for Poles. And this is not a coincidence, but the result of a lack of concrete decisions,” wrote Mariusz Błaszczak, a politician of Law and Justice (PiS), on social media. Other MPs have also spoken out on rising prices.
TV Republika and Niezalezna have repeatedly informed their readers that this year’s Easter will be more expensive than the previous one and – at the same time – one of the most expensive in history.
In response to high food prices, Prof. Przemysław Czarnek – Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister – submitted a bill to reduce VAT on food from 5 percent to 0 percent. However, the proposal has not received any response from the ruling camp.
“Tusk’s Expensive Poland”
On Friday – since the morning hours – opposition politicians have been posting on social media, criticizing the ruling camp over high prices both in stores and at fuel stations. “This Easter will be exceptionally expensive for Poles. And this is not a coincidence, but the result of a lack of concrete decisions. The government ignored the bill to reduce VAT on food to 0%, submitted by Prof. Przemysław Czarnek. Instead of real relief for families, we have further price increases in stores,” wrote Mariusz Błaszczak, chairman of the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary club.
He added: “The same applies to fuel – prices began to fall only after three weeks from the Law and Justice (PiS) initiative. Moreover, the government proposal did not include LPG gas, and entrepreneurs who deduct VAT are, in practice, paying more for fuel. This is not a policy for the people. This is a policy against the people.”
In a recording published by Law and Justice (PiS), MP Radosław Fogiel pointed out:
“Easter is approaching, but these will not be pleasant holidays. They will be the most expensive holidays in history. This is the result of the government of Donald Tusk. Rising energy prices driven by ETS fees, expensive fuel. The government reacts with delay and to an insufficient degree. All this means that today Polish families will really count every penny while doing their pre-holiday shopping. I wish you that these bad times of government pass as soon as possible,” he said.
Anna Gembicka, an MP from Law and Justice (PiS), assessed:
“Each of us could have had cheaper holidays if Tusk’s government had been willing to do its job and adopted the bill submitted by Prof. Przemysław Czarnek, which reduced VAT on food to 0 percent. Unfortunately, it turns out once again that the problems of Poles mean nothing to Donald Tusk.”
