“Tusk’s revenge has entered a new phase,” said Zbigniew Ziobro during a press conference held in Budapest. The former Minister of Justice, while in the Hungarian capital, explained how for years he had fought against criminals who now surround the current head of government. He announced that he “will actively participate” in the proceedings concerning him.
At 4 p.m., the parliamentary committee is to hold a short meeting on lifting Zbigniew Ziobro’s immunity. Afterwards, during a vote scheduled for late at night, a decision in his case is to be made. Members of Parliament will decide not only on the possible lifting of his immunity but also on whether to approve his arrest. The Prosecutor’s Office plans to charge the former Minister of Justice with offenses related to the expenditure of funds from the Justice Fund.
“Tusk’s revenge has entered a new phase, in this case the submission of a motion to lift my immunity and the Sejm’s approval of temporary arrest,” said Zbigniew Ziobro during the press conference organized before the meeting of the parliamentary committee. While in Budapest, the politician listed further scandals involving the current prime minister’s team.
He stated that the prime minister is surrounded by “people who are thieves.” Ziobro added, “One could say that Donald Tusk has reasons for revenge. As Prosecutor General – Minister of Justice, I supervised numerous proceedings in which members of Donald Tusk’s party appeared as suspects in very serious crimes. It is enough to mention the case of Sławomir Nowak,” he explained. “My overriding goal was to deal with VAT mafias, not to settle scores with my predecessors,” he added. He recalled that Prime Minister Tusk, when taking power – unlike his predecessors – declared that he would apply the law as he understands it.
He also referred to reports suggesting that he might be unlawfully detained upon his return to Poland. Ziobro confirmed this information and expressed concern about it. “I received information that part of the spectacle which Donald Tusk has been consistently staging, regardless of the law, was supposed to be my detention upon returning to the country, and at the very least to hinder or possibly even prevent me from exercising my right to respond to the absurd allegations contained in the motion to lift my immunity,” he emphasized.
Ziobro said the charges are a sign of the prosecution’s helplessness. He also referred to the case of MP Marcin Romanowski, adding that after the committee’s proceedings conclude, he will address the accusations he considers false.
“All these accusations are false, fabricated, and an example of the attitude ‘give me the man and I’ll find the paragraph.’ They reflect the helplessness of the prosecution subordinated to Mr. Tusk, which is looking for a pretext to destroy and damage the public image of political opponents. These accusations imply that the funds were embezzled or stolen. There are many more such absurd and irrational allegations in this motion, and I will have an opportunity to respond to each of them after the committee’s session concludes. All actions were within the framework of the law, the provisions of the Executive Penal Code, and other laws in force in Poland. Contrary to the narrative, decisions on awarding funds were not made through tender procedures but through competitive ones. All the decisions questioned by the prosecutor and presented as alleged crimes were taken within the law and the duties of the Minister of Justice,” he said.
