TV Republika showed Żurek’s guests. Opposition MP reacts: “A scandalous meeting”

“I have submitted an interpellation regarding the scandalous meeting with controversial activists supporting the government, held inside the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw with the participation of Minister Waldemar Żurek,” opposition MP Sebastian Kaleta announced on social media.

Yesterday, Paweł Kasprzak from the Obywatele RP (Citizens of the Republic of Poland) movement posted on social media that a “consultation meeting” with Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek would take place the following day. The event was said to include “civic organizations,” which — as explained — were expected to present their demands concerning the functioning of the justice system.

Journalists from Telewizja Republika decided to verify who these representatives of civil society actually were. Reporter Michał Gwardyński went to the site and recorded the arrival of several recognizable activists. Among them was Mateusz Kijowski, the former leader of the Committee for the Defense of Democracy (KOD), who — which is particularly controversial — has been finally convicted in the so-called invoicing scandal. Other familiar faces were also present. Leaving the prosecutor’s office were, among others: Bartosz Kramek, Stanisława Skłodowska of the Flying Opposition Brigade, and well-known provocateur Katarzyna Augustynek.

In connection with this mysterious meeting, MP Sebastian Kaleta decided to submit an interpellation to the Minister of Justice, raising uncomfortable questions:

I demand the presentation of:

  • a full list of the meeting’s participants,
  • the topics discussed,
  • information on whether the Prosecutors General and their illegal nominees interfere in the criminal proceedings of individuals who were hosted at the prosecutor’s office.
