A TVN24 journalist waiting for the National Security Council noticed the car of the U.S. ambassador to Poland. He began spinning theories, taken up among others by Magdalena Biejat of the New Left, to which officials from the Presidential Chancellery quickly responded. “All it took was to ask,” commented presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz.
The presence of a large American delegation of officials in several European countries is linked, among other things, to the participation of some representatives of Donald Trump at the Munich Security Conference.
The visit to Poland a few days ago was announced by Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B. Rogers. As reported by the Presidential Chancellery, she met with presidential minister Agnieszka Jędrzak and also plans meetings with representatives of the foreign affairs and digitalization ministries.
In line with diplomatic protocol, delegations are always accompanied by the head of the mission. This time was no different. Ambassador Tom Rose took part in the meeting.
“All it took was to ask,”
The car belonging to him leaving the Presidential Palace did not escape the attention of journalists waiting for the start of the National Security Council. Artur Molęda from TVN24 tried to link the presence of the American diplomat with one of the topics to be discussed during the session – the case of Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty.
Magdalena Biejat went even further, coming to the defense of her party leader. On X she wrote: “First the ambassador decides which constitutional body the United States will have contacts with in Poland, and now what? He’s making sure American interests are secured at the NSC? The motto of Law and Justice (PiS) and the president should be: On your knees before America.”
Presidential ministers responded. “It is worth checking basic facts before starting to spin theories and spread disinformation. That is what journalism is about,” wrote Marcin Przydacz, head of the Office of International Policy.
Paweł Szefernaker also pushed back against Magdalena Biejat. In a similar tone, presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz commented that the TVN journalist “is looking for sensation where there is none,” adding, “All it took was to ask.”
