“The new U.S. Strategy assumes that priority access to armaments will be granted to partners who, among other things, have invested in their own self-defense and are of key importance in U.S. plans and operations. Poland clearly meets these criteria; however, the current government is thoughtlessly closing off its own path to acquiring armaments from the United States,” warned Mariusz Błaszczak, PiS MP and former Minister of National Defence.
New rules for the sale of American weapons
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed a new executive order on the sale of American armaments, introducing a significant change to U.S. export policy. The new strategy prioritizes countries that invest substantially in their own defense capabilities and that hold key strategic importance in their regions.
This policy shift is intended not only to strengthen the security of allies but also to support the American defense industry by increasing production and improving the efficiency of arms transfers.
Former defense chief: “Poland meets these criteria.”
Mariusz Błaszczak, PiS MP and former Minister of National Defence, commented on this information in a post published on X.
“The new U.S. Strategy assumes that priority access to armaments will be granted to partners who, among other things, have invested in their own self-defense and are of key importance in U.S. plans and operations. Poland clearly meets these criteria; however, the current government is thoughtlessly closing off its own path to acquiring armaments from the United States,”
the politician stated.
The PiS MP also recalled that the strategy of the “December 13 coalition” government involves “phasing out the Armed Forces Support Fund, from which we could procure equipment from across the ocean, and replacing it with the SAFE fund, from which we can procure armaments exclusively from the EU.”
“What will be the consequence of such actions? There will simply be no money left for purchases from any market other than the EU. Why is the EU market not enough? Abandoning the acquisition of new equipment from the U.S. runs counter to Poland’s security interests,”
Błaszczak warned.
The MP also emphasized that the United Right government, over eight years, “significantly deepened security relations with Washington, resulting in the presence of U.S. troops and American infrastructure investments.”
“Thanks to mutual trust, we were able to purchase equipment in configurations that the Americans did not sell to anyone else, such as the ‘Wisła’ system. We should not squander this,”
he concluded.
