UKE launches inspection at TV Republika; Sakiewicz says “They want to examine everything”

The Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) intends to initiate an inspection at TV Republika. The station’s president, Tomasz Sakiewicz, states plainly: they want to learn about the station’s security measures.

TV Republika has received a notice from the Office of Electronic Communications regarding the planned inspection of compliance of the parameters of the radio equipment in use. In the same letter, the director of UKE’s inspection department warns that obstructing or preventing inspection activities is subject to a penalty of up to 3% of the penalized entity’s revenue.

Sakiewicz: They want to check everything

On air at TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz commented on the notification from the Office of Electronic Communications concerning the inspection at the station.

“We have to expand our backup systems because we live in a country where the prime minister interprets the law as he wishes. As a result, our television operation is much more expensive, because we need to have numerous backups to maintain connectivity,”

he pointed out.

According to Sakiewicz, UKE’s actions are aimed at learning the details of the station’s security safeguards. “They want to check everything and find out how we protect ourselves,” he emphasized.

A blow to the Free Speech Zone

It is worth recalling that this is not the first such situation involving the Free Speech Zone. The Prime Minister’s Office is demanding that the Niezależne Media Foundation return approximately PLN 5.7 million in funding for the “Academy of Democracy” project, even though the funds were spent in accordance with the agreement and properly accounted for, as approved by the Prime Minister’s Office in December 2023.
