United Cup 2023: Poland advanced to the Final Four

Today’s day has been full of emotions right from the start. Firstly, Iga Swiatek won against Trevisan, and then Hubert Hurkacz lost to Berrettini after a fierce match. The icing on the cake was Magda Linette’s win to level the score with the Italian (2:2). Further fates were decided by the duo of Swiatek, Hurkacz and Rosatello, Musetti.

Poland advanced to the Final Four

From the start, huge domination was evident on the court. It seemed that the Italians might change the line-up, but this did not happen.

Swiatek and Hurkacz were almost flawless on their own serves and consistently made life difficult for their opponents on their serve. Consequently, after just 24 minutes, it was already 1:0 in the set.

The second game was much more difficult. The first four games took as long as the entire first set. This translated into two games won by the Italian duo. However, Poles kept their concentration.

Eventually, after just over an hour of play, the Polish national team secured their advance to the United Cup semi-finals. The Final Four will begin on Friday, January 6, in Sydney.

    Iga Świątek/Hubert Hurkacz – Camilla Rosatello/Lorenzo Musetti 6:1, 6:2

Iga Świątek has scored the first point for Team Poland in the United Cup Brisbane City Final against Italy today.

    Hubert’s fierce battle

The second point for Italy was won by Matteo Berrettini, who defeated Hubert Hurkacz 6:4, 3:6, 6:3 after a fierce encounter.

Hurkacz’s clash with Berrettini was heralded as a United Cup highlight. Both players have a capital service, so it was clear that the efficiency of the first service would be extremely important.

Berrettini did his best and broke the Pole at 3:2, then focused on holding his serve and won two match balls. The first one the Pole managed to defend, but with the second he had nothing to say.

    Magda is on a roll

Magda Linette gave hope to the Polish national team. The Pole defeated Lucia Bronzetti 6:1, 6:2 in a brilliant style and led to a draw in the clash with Italy (2:2).

For Linette, the last match against Switzerland was particularly successful. The Pole, after a fierce encounter, dealt with the uncomfortable Jil Teichmann and won a very important point for the Polish national team.

In the first set, Magda’s brave play resulted in two quick breaks. At 5:1, the first set balls appeared and this time there were no nerves. Linette took the third and took the lead.

The second set brought no change in the game and, despite some tough moments at the end of the games, Magda did not let herself lose.
