USA Not Letting Russia Off the Hook: “The Screw Will Remain Tightened”

The administration of President Donald Trump has announced the continuation of the state of emergency originally imposed by Joe Biden’s team in response to what were deemed harmful actions by the Moscow government. This means the existing sanctions against the Russian Federation will be extended for another year.

The official notice on this matter was published in the government’s Federal Register. The document refers to executive orders issued by former President Joe Biden in 2021 and 2022.

The Democrat declared a state of emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. This action was a response to “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” prompted by “harmful foreign actions by the government of the Russian Federation.”

These actions included interference in democratic election processes, cyberattacks targeting the U.S. and its allies, the use of corruption to influence foreign governments, and attacks on dissidents and media representatives. Other accusations included undermining security in countries and regions critical to U.S. national security, as well as violations of international law, including the principle of territorial integrity of sovereign states.

“This situation continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” the published document emphasized. This justifies the extension of the emergency measures for another year.

The MSN news service notes that President Biden’s executive order imposing a state of emergency primarily aimed to freeze Russian assets under U.S. jurisdiction and impose economic sanctions.

According to sources from Fox News, the incumbent president reportedly concluded that Putin is deliberately delaying a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. As a result, the Washington administration is considering tightening existing sanctions against Russia. Trump himself has personally threatened to impose so-called secondary sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil.
