Vehicle Inspectors Can’t Wait to Get the Green Light for Long-Awaited Price Increases

The Ministry of Infrastructure in Poland is currently examining the potential for adjusting the fees associated with vehicle technical inspections. This development aims to strike a balance that safeguards vehicle owners from steep cost increases while addressing the long-standing demands of inspection station operators for higher charges.

Rafał Jaśkowski, the ministry’s spokesperson, revealed that a meeting was held with representatives from businesses operating vehicle inspection stations, who have advocated for a revision of the current fee structure. “Analyses are underway concerning this matter,” Jaśkowski stated, emphasizing the ministry’s intent to find a solution that considers the financial impact on car owners as well as meeting the expectations of the entrepreneurs running these stations.

Despite the ongoing discussions, it is reportedly too early to outline any specific plans or systemic solutions in this area. “At this stage of our work, discussing concrete plans and systemic solutions is premature,” Jaśkowski noted, signaling a cautious approach to any potential changes.

The call for fee valorization comes amid appeals made to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Paweł Gancarz, by various organizations within the automotive sector at the end of January. They argue that the charges for vehicle technical inspections have remained unchanged for nearly two decades, suggesting that an adjustment could not only reflect current economic conditions but also potentially increase state budget revenues.

The appeal has garnered support from a broad spectrum of industry stakeholders, including the Polish Chamber of Vehicle Inspection Stations, DEKRA Poland, the Association of Automotive Technology, the Polish Motor Association, the Association of Car Dealers, the National Association of Road Transport Employers, the National Association of Vehicle Inspection Station Employers, and the Association of Automotive Parts Distributors and Manufacturers.
