Are politicians from the Polish People’s Party (PSL) and Civic Coalition (KO) honouring a German war criminal? As journalist Tomasz Duklanowski has reported, mugs bearing an image of Major General Henning von Tresckow in a Wehrmacht uniform were distributed during a community festival in Chełm Górny, in Poland’s West Pomeranian province.
Von Tresckow was a member of the Nazi regime and a hardliner who took part in the Germanisation of Polish society and the killing of Poles. He issued an order for tens of thousands of Slavic children to be deported to the Third Reich for Germanisation.
Meanwhile, the reverse side of the mugs featuring Tresckow bears the logo of the West Pomeranian regional authorities, which are controlled by PO and PSL, as well as the following inscription: “Under the honorary patronage of Marcin Łapeciński, member of the West Pomeranian regional executive board.”
