Wojciech Olszański Incites Violence Against Polish Deputy Marshal

Wojciech Olszański, known by the nickname “Jaszczur” (Lizard), publicly incited violence against Małgorzata Gosiewska, the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm (the lower house of the Polish Parliament), in recent events. A recording featuring Olszański, which was published on social media, sparked public outrage. In the recording, Olszański can be heard urging the use of a metal rod or driving a nail-studded board into Małgorzata Gosiewska’s face.

Wojciech Olszański is a well-known activist with extreme views. In April, he completed a six-month prison sentence for publicly inciting murder and threatening the lives of MPs and journalists who supported mandatory COVID vaccinations. Olszański’s involvement in controversial events from November 11, 2021, in Kalisz is also noteworthy. Along with others, he burned the text of the Kalisz Statute, a historical document guaranteeing tolerance for Jews, issued by Duke Bolesław the Pious of Kalisz in 1264.

Inciting violence and attacking politicians is unacceptable and threatens the fundamental values of democracy. Many politicians and social organizations have expressed their concern and solidarity with Małgorzata Gosiewska.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw have been notified about the recording and actions of Wojciech Olszański. In Poland, public incitement to murder is punishable by up to 3 years of imprisonment.
