Krzysztof Zanussi received the Eastern Star award at the Trieste film festival in northern Italy on Wednesday. It is awarded to filmmakers who have built bridges between the West and the East, the ceremony highlighted.
The current 34th edition of the festival also featured a screening of Zanussi’s new film The Perfect Number, which premiered last September.
The main character of the Polish-Italian-Israeli drama is a young mathematician (played by Jan Marczewski), who has subordinated his entire life to research into prime numbers. Upon meeting a distant cousin, played by Andrzej Seweryn, the man begins to re-evaluate his priorities.
At the award ceremony was the director of the Polish Institute in Rome, Adrianna Siennicka. The Polish institution in the Eternal City is a partner of the Trieste Festival.
