Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys defeated Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin 6:3, 5:7, 6:2 to advance to the final of the Australian Open Men’s Doubles!
This is the biggest achievement in the career of the 26-year-old Pole. Zielinski has won two doubles titles and has gone the furthest in a Grand Slam tournament at last year’s US Open, making it to the quarter-finals with Nys.
Zielinski could become the third Polish doubles triumpher at the Australian Open. In 1978, Wojciech Fibak, who played alongside Australian Kim Warwick, took the title, while in 2014, Lukasz Kubot and Swede Robert Lindstedt were the champions.
The match lasted one hour and 48 minutes. The pair sent as many as 14 service aces, while their rivals sent only three.
Their last opponents will be Australians Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler. The Grand Slam Final is scheduled for Saturday, January 28.
