Waldemar Żurek has threatened legal action against a TV Republika journalist who asked him about his contacts with a “Spanish journalist.” “We are dealing with a major espionage scandal, and the issue of the current justice minister’s involvement requires clarification, not threats of lawsuits,” says Republika’s president, Tomasz Sakiewicz.
Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek reacted nervously when asked by a TV Republika journalist about his contacts with a “Spanish journalist,” which he himself had spoken about in a 2016 TOK FM article. “You’ve said a few sentences too many, and I’d ask you to reconsider,” Żurek warned, adding at the end that he would answer questions “when we have our joint court case.”
Tomasz Sakiewicz commented on Waldemar Żurek’s words on the Free Zone Speech channel – TV Republika.
“Waldemar Żurek is afraid; he has been left on his own by Donald Tusk, and there’s no sign of willingness to defend him. They realize this is a ticking atomic bomb. It seems there may be many more contacts, intersections with Rubcov and Szmydt. We have access to part of this information, and more will surface shortly,”
said the president of TV Republika.
“We are dealing with a major espionage scandal, and the issue of the current justice minister’s involvement requires clarification, not legal threats,”
Sakiewicz emphasized.
The TV Republika president stated that Minister Waldemar Żurek should come forward and publicly explain his contacts with the “Spanish journalist.” “If there was nothing improper, he should come out and explain the circumstances – what information he passed on, what came out of these contacts, what articles resulted from them,” Sakiewicz enumerated.
“We need to see the level of involvement. Even if there is none, we must know with 100 percent certainty that Mr. Żurek is clean in this matter. He threatens because he knows that is not the case. (…) Notice how he responds to our journalist. ‘If you know something, then say it.’ Is our journalist supposed to know how many times Mr. Żurek made contact and in what matter? Żurek knows how many times and for what purpose. So why is he asking our journalist? Because he wants to check how much journalists have already uncovered – what he needs to dismantle, deny, or perhaps confirm,”
he stressed.
“That is not what concern for the public good and state security looks like. It is Minister Żurek who should explain everything fully and unequivocally. We are not talking about a game of tag, but about espionage, about an aggressor preparing attacks on Poland and conducting hybrid operations against Poland. So if Minister Żurek wants peace of mind, he should tell the whole story. Otherwise, he remains under suspicion,”
Sakiewicz concluded.
