Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny hospitalised

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was taken to the hospital after a suspected poisoning on Thursday. Navalny started feeling unwell while on a return flight to Moscow – said his spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh on Twitter. He is in a coma.

‘We assume that Alexei was poisoned with something mixed into his tea. It was the only thing that he drank in the morning. Doctors say the toxin was absorbed faster through the hot liquid. Alexei is now unconscious’ – said his spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh.

The hospital’s deputy head physician, Anatoly Kalinichenko was asked if Navalny has been poisoned. ‘Naturally, poisoning is considered as one of the possible reasons for the deterioration of his state. But apart from this, this could be several conditions that led to the same clinical reactions. We are working on all of them: excluding, confirming’ – said Kalinichenko.

Alexei Navalny is a Russian politician and anti-corruption activist. He is also the leader of the Progress Party in Russia (called also Russia of the Future).
