PKP Intercity: Increase in costs of energy affects ticket prices

Over the past eight years, the cost of traction power has increased by 65 percent, making it necessary to update train tickets. It shall enter into force on January 13. However, even with the increase, train travel remains competitive in price and time to car, bus or plane.

For many years, the PKP Intercity company has maintained fixed train ticket prices, ensuring a competitive offer compared to other means of transport. At that time, regional carriers were updating their price lists. This sometimes led to surprising situations in which tickets for some PKP Intercity trains were cheaper than tickets of regional carriers, which traveled on the same routes but offered longer travel times.

With the price list change, ticket prices will increase. This is due to an increase in traction power costs. However, it is worth remembering that travelers who are entitled to statutory discounts can buy tickets with an additional discount. It is worth following the promotions for Express InterCity or Express InterCity Premium train tickets.
