Beachgoers in Mielno could have come across an unusual visitor today. A walrus was resting on one of the wild beaches. Its presence is surprising as this species may be found on Arctic coasts.
Mr Damian reported that he came across the Arctic walrus on a deserted stretch of beach. WWF Blue Patrol volunteers were informed about the unusual visitor, who admitted that it was probably the first such specimen in the Baltic Sea.
According to scientists, the walrus on the beach in Mielno is the same animal that a few days ago was seen on the beach on the German island of Rugen, where it also caused a sensation. Experts believe that the animal is not sick or injured and is choosing the beach as a resting place before continuing its journey.
