World Urban Forum 11th Session – Cities of the Future, 26–30 June 2022 in Katowice, Poland

The Eleventh Session of the World Urban Forum is devoted to the deliberation on the means of implementation of the New Urban Agenda and urban crisis reconstruction. Katowice is the host of the conference so it is also a great opportunity to present the great development of the Silesia Voivodeship, especially those carried out in Katowice on social, economic, and environmental levels.

In 2015, the United Nations celebrated its 70th anniversary. This moment seemed to be appropriate for adopting a new world development plan until 2030 (AGENDA 2030). Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were drawn up at that time, along with 169 tasks to be completed. At the same time, all member states were encouraged to take steps to implement these projects.

During the WUF11 conference in Katowice, the “Cities of the Future” plan will be presented. It is prepared in line with the global goals of sustainable development. Its form is compressed to a catalog of activities that will transform cities into green, accessible and productive places.

“WUF11 is an opportunity for Poland to show the international community how it is trying to achieve a sustainable future for its cities and settlements. Katowice is a great example of urban regeneration. I am convinced that we can build on this example and share this experience in 2022”, says the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‐Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

As a part of the promotion of the region, the host of the conference prepared special recommendations including the best places to visit in Katowice.
