Last week, Russia suspended the grain deal, thus preventing the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea basin. Following negotiations initiated by the UN and Turkey, Russia decided to reverse this decision. Authorities in Ankara report that Ukrainian ships are to resume their voyages tomorrow.
The agreement was broken after Saturday’s attack on two Russian ships stationed in the port of Sevastopol. Moscow changed its position after Kyiv gave an assurance that the humanitarian corridor would not be used for military purposes. Meanwhile, in the opinion of experts, the attack did not violate the provisions of international war law.
“As agreed, concrete steps are needed to remove obstacles to the export of Russian grain and fertilisers. The whole world, especially underdeveloped and developing countries, need these products from both Ukraine and Russia.” Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Turkey Minister od Foreign Affairs, said.
