The need for investment in nuclear energy based on small modular reactors (SMR) was emphasized by Paweł Majewski, President of the Board of Enea S.A. during the panel at the 590 Congress in Nadarzyn. The Congress also became a place where Enea Innowacje, a company from the Enea Group, and American Last Energy signed a letter of intent concerning cooperation in the development of SMR technology.
“Introducing renewable energy is possible, but it requires much more time than was assumed until recently, concerning gas as a transition fuel. Photovoltaics and windmills are on this path, but these are sources of power generation that are nevertheless not fully controllable by a human. The forces of nature decide whether we will have electricity production and at what level,” Paweł Majewski pointed out.
“Therefore, we need to introduce safe and controllable zero-emission power generation, and this is what small nuclear reactors are,” he added.
“These small reactors are designed to produce energy for local needs, like industry and human settlements, and that is both electricity and heat,” he explained.
Small reactors have a capacity of around 20 megawatts of electricity and 60 megawatts of heat. They are therefore perfectly suited for local heat and power plants.
“I am glad that Enea is another company that is following this path, joining Orlen and KGHM,” Jacek Sasin, Minister of State Assets, said during the signing of Enea’s agreement with Last Energy.
“Energy companies, which are the guarantor of our energy security, set this goal as a priority,” Deputy Prime Minister Sasin added.
