US Open: Iga Świątek in the final: 'It will be a great challenge’ [VIDEO]

Iga Swiatek has advanced to the final of the US Open Grand Slam tournament. The World No.1 defeated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 3:6, 6:1, 6:4. On Saturday, her final opponent will be Tunisian Ons Jabeur. “It will be a great challenge and a great fight,” Iga concluded.

Both players started aggressively and both initially made a lot of unforced errors. The 24-year-old from Minsk was the first to improve her game. From 2:2, the Belarusian won four games and Iga Świątek the only one.

After the break, Iga started the second game sensationally – she won the first two games without losing a point. Swiatek put pressure on her rival, especially on her second serve. As a result, she won 6:1.

The third set was very tight and for a long time, there was a slight advantage for Sabalenka, who started the set with a breakpoint. The Pole took the initiative for good. She first made up for the break, then smoothly won a set on her serve, and then broke the Belarusian again using her second match ball.

Świątek is the first top-seeded player since 2014 to appear in the deciding match of the competition at Flushing Meadows. Eight years ago, it was won by American Serena Williams.

Keep believing. Keep fighting. Keep improving. What a night, What a feeling. See you in the US Open final!” Iga wrote on Twitter.

A few hours earlier, Ons Jabeur defeated Caroline Garcia (No. 17) 6:1, 6:3 in the first semi-final and ended the French tennis player’s winning streak at 13.
