The exposé has begun in the Sejm, during which The Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau is presenting the government’s report on the objectives and directions of Polish foreign policy. “Russia treats all its neighbours jointly, and by attacking Ukraine it poses a threat to the Baltic states, Finland, Sweden, Romania, and Poland.”, he said.
In a speech to parliament on Thursday, MFA Zbigniew Rau declared that Russia’s aggressive policies pose the greatest threat to peace in Europe and Poland’s security. He emphasized that his country’s aim is to stop Russia’s imperial ambitions and limit its expansionist tendencies.
Rau’s comments come over a year after Russia launched a brutal invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The foreign minister believes that this invasion demonstrated Russia’s desire to subjugate neighboring nations and poses a significant risk to Poland’s security.
Rau emphasized that the Polish government’s position is that Russia must end its aggression in Ukraine and withdraw its troops from the region, including the Crimean peninsula. He warned against any premature proposals to rebuild bridges with Russia, stating that Russia would remain outside the community of civilized nations until it stopped its aggression.
Furthermore, he expressed skepticism about France’s attempts to hold peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. The Polish foreign minister’s statements reveal a clear stance against any diplomatic normalization with Russia, emphasizing the need for the international community to contain Russia’s aggression.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, remains the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II. The conflict has caused significant tension between Russia and the international community, with many countries imposing economic sanctions and diplomatic pressure on Russia. Rau’s speech reinforces the need for a united front in containing Russia’s aggressive policies and limiting its territorial ambitions.
