Birds, including the first storks, have arrived in Poland’s Suwałki Region, often dubbed the Polish cold pole, signaling the onset of spring, according to Teresa Świerubska, director of the Suwałki Landscape Park.
Migration to Suwałki, known for its chilly climate, typically occurs later due to the longer journey and harsh conditions.
Various bird species, such as cranes, lapwings, skylarks, herons, and starlings, have been spotted. Storks, particularly males, have begun nest preparation, awaiting their mates’ appraisal.
Despite fluctuating weather and occasional frost, greenery is spreading across the region since late February. Buds adorn trees, hazel has blossomed early, and snowdrops grace gardens.
