Dramatic Flood Situation in Nysa: Firefighters Strengthen Riverbanks as Residents Evacuate

Nysa is facing a critical situation as residents flee the city due to the imminent threat of flooding. Evacuations are also underway in nearby municipalities. Firefighters are working tirelessly to reinforce the banks of the Nysa Kłodzka River in an effort to prevent the town from being completely submerged.

According to Senior Captain Dariusz Pryga, spokesperson for the State Fire Service in Nysa, the current operations focus on strengthening damaged sections of the river’s levee. In a statement to Nowiny Nyskie, he urged residents to heed evacuation warnings and leave their homes for designated safe areas.

The water discharge from the river is expected to decrease from 1,000 cubic meters per second to 800, which should aid evacuation efforts. Captain Pryga expressed hope that the excess water can be contained in the nearby Nysa Reservoir, avoiding further flooding in the town.

Footage shared by Nowiny Nyskie on social media shows lines of cars leaving the city, with a helicopter also assisting in rescue operations. Soldiers from the Territorial Defense Forces are actively helping with the evacuation.

Local authorities are calling for calm but insist on the importance of immediate evacuation to ensure everyone’s safety.
