Poland’s EU Presidency: European Diplomas and Research Goals

Poland’s 2025 EU presidency to focus on European diplomas, Horizon Europe, and advancing the European Research Area.

In January 2025, Poland will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union, focusing on European education and research. Key objectives include launching the “European Diploma,” a qualification representing joint programs between European universities, aimed at enhancing academic collaboration and graduates’ job prospects.

Poland will also lead an evaluation of the EU’s largest research initiative, Horizon Europe, a program with a €95.5 billion budget supporting innovation from 2021 to 2027. This evaluation seeks to increase Polish participation and improve funding accessibility for national institutions.

Poland’s agenda includes developing the European Research Area’s objectives for 2025-2027, focusing on resource-sharing among research institutions. This effort aims to strengthen Europe’s competitive edge in research and technology, ensuring impactful, sustainable growth across member states.

Dr. Patrycja Matusz, representing Poland, sees this presidency as a strategic period for proposing policies and supporting young researchers in securing grants, fostering a stronger European innovation ecosystem.
