New York City’s Council celebrated Polish Independence Day with a special ceremony at City Hall. Iconic sites like the One World Trade Center and the Kosciuszko Bridge lit up in red and white to mark the occasion, symbolizing solidarity and respect for the Polish community.
City Leaders Paid Tribute
During the annual event, council members such as Robert Holden, representing a district with a strong Polish-American presence, highlighted their pride in the community’s influence. Joann Ariola acknowledged Polish Americans’ contributions to both the city and the country, while Lincoln Restler called Greenpoint a generational hub of Polish culture.
Polish Consul General Mateusz Sakowicz emphasized that the red-and-white illuminations celebrate Poland’s legacy and the contributions of Polish-Americans to New York City’s prosperity. This year, City Council issued honorary proclamations for notable Polish figures, including Konrad Fijołek, and organizations named after General Pulaski.
