    Lithuania Strengthens Energy Independence with LNG Terminal Transfer

    In Klaipėda, Lithuania, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Baltic leaders celebrated the official transfer of the LNG terminal Independence. This floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) is pivotal for the region’s energy security, especially amid Russian aggression. Duda emphasized the importance of diversifying energy sources, stating that initiatives like the Independence exemplify the success of the Three Seas Initiative.

    Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda highlighted the nation’s swift shift away from Russian gas following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He announced that, within months, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will sever connections with the Russian energy grid, achieving full independence.

    The Independence, operational since 2014, has now become Lithuanian state property. Leaders of Latvia and Estonia echoed its importance in bolstering collective resilience and protecting critical Baltic infrastructure. The terminal, along with regional projects like Baltic Pipe, showcases strengthened unity against Russian intimidation.
