A Dramatic Surge in Youth Unemployment: “This Is Not a Normal Poland”

“The example of Kraków shows that entering the labor market has become a nightmare. Over the course of a year, unemployment there has increased by nearly 38 percent. Young people graduate, they have ambitions, but unfortunately, jobs are very often unavailable. This is not a normal Poland,” warns Mateusz Morawiecki, an MP from Law and Justice (PiS).

Youth unemployment is rising. “This Is Not a Normal Poland”

Data from the Municipal Labor Office in Kraków indicate that over the past year, the unemployment rate among people under the age of 30 increased by 37.7 percent. At the end of the third quarter of 2025, the office’s register listed 2,290 young people without work, accounting for 17.8 percent of all registered unemployed individuals. At the same time, residents under 30 constitute a significant demographic group in Kraków; at the end of 2024, they numbered over 230,000 people, or nearly 29 percent of the city’s total population.

These figures were addressed on social media by Mateusz Morawiecki, an MP from PiS.

“Unfortunately, I do not have good news for young people. The example of Kraków shows that entering the labor market has become a nightmare. Over the course of a year, unemployment there has risen by almost 38 percent. Young people graduate, they have ambitions, but unfortunately, jobs are very often unavailable. Natalia, a biotechnology graduate, says outright that today in Kraków, a job interview borders on a miracle. This is not a normal Poland,”

he said.

He added that “a normal Poland is one in which a young person fairly quickly, or simply immediately, finds employment, and finds it in their profession, for decent pay and with prospects for development.”

“I know that this can be changed, and I will do everything I can to ensure that young, ambitious people can quickly find employment on the labor market; that they can develop their talents and build the future of our shared homeland. Together, we can do it,”

the politician concluded.
