Charleston Open: Magda Linette’s first win

Magda Linette had a difficult start to her match with Varvara Gracheva at the Charleston tournament, but in the end, the Pole emerged victorious. Linette dropped the first set in a tie-break but rallied back to win the next two sets, 6:7, 7:5 and 6:4, to secure her spot in the 1/8 finals.

Seeded eighth, Magda Linette began her competition in Charleston in the second round. She was immediately presented with a challenge as she faced Varvara Gracheva, who had previously beaten her 3:6, 6:4, and 4:6 at the tournament in Austin a month prior.

Linette knew she had a difficult match ahead of her when the first set of the second round began. Both players lost two of their serves to their opponents and Gracheva won the tie-break 7:3.

Poland’s Magda Linette claimed a stunning victory in the final set of her match against her rival on Monday. After dropping the second set at 4:5, Linette rallied to win the two remaining games, breaking her opponent in the process. It all came down to the third set, in which Linette earned the decisive break at 3:3 and went on to win 6:4.

The ninth-seeded American Madison Keys awaits the Pole in the 1/8 final. Keys has so far been victorious in her two matches against fellow Americans Emma Navarro and Hailey Baptiste, despite her lower ranking on the WTA list.
