Controversial Journalist Piotr Maślak to Head NeoTVP’s Editorial and Documentary Unit

Piotr Maślak, a former journalist with TVP, is set to become the new head of the editorial, documentary, and social program creation agency at NeoTVP, according to unofficial reports from Wirtualne Media. The unit, established in 2018, oversees publicist and social programs on major channels and is responsible for crafting documentaries and film series.

Maślak, previously associated with TVP from 2009 to 2016, faced controversy in August 2021 when he compared Polish Border Guard officers to the SS on Twitter amid the crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border. Accused of defamation, he was found guilty by the Sokółka District Court in April 2023 but received a conditional dismissal. The court ordered Maślak to pay a fine and contribute to a fund for victims of crime.

Despite the backlash, Maślak’s appointment raises eyebrows, as he is now poised to lead a key division at NeoTVP. His controversial statements continue to spark debate about the boundaries between journalistic expression and accountability.
