CPAC Lands in Poland: A New Chapter for European Conservatism

On May 26–27, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) will be held in Rzeszów for the first time in Poland. The event is being organized with the support of the television network TV Republika. Although the conference is set to take place between the first and second rounds of the presidential election in Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza has asserted that the opposition is orchestrating the event so that “Nawrocki’s campaign can regain momentum—especially after the revelation of the compromising issue concerning his second apartment.”

This major gathering of conservatives from Europe, the United States, and beyond will take place just a few days before the second round of the presidential election. Matt Schlapp, head of the CPAC organization and former White House Director of Political Affairs, spoke yesterday on TV Republika about the upcoming event. The station affiliated with the Dom Wolnego Słowa (House of Free Speech) is a key partner in bringing CPAC to Poland.

“This is something significant. The first CPAC in Poland will take place this very month. It’s an exciting time for Poland, which is why we invite everyone to attend,”

he announced.

“When Donald Trump won the presidential election in the United States, the world felt a new sense of hope—a hope that freedom can also thrive in other nations. People of goodwill can unite and cooperate. I believe this is a crucial moment globally for acting together. We’ll be travelling across Europe. Each week, we’re engaging with new countries and growing this movement. I am confident we will soon see remarkable results,”

he added on TV Republika.

“Wyborcza” in Panic Mode

Ticket sales for the event opened this morning, and participation is open to the general public. Nonetheless, Gazeta Wyborcza seized the opportunity to launch criticism. However, this appears to reflect a sense of unease, as the only initiative the campaign team of Nawrocki’s main rival—Rafał Trzaskowski—can claim is an expensive event in Poznań featuring former U.S. President Barack Obama, funded by taxpayers.

“To save Karol Nawrocki’s presidential campaign, Law and Justice politicians have decided to bring American and European Trump supporters to the G2A Arena in Rzeszów. The date: May 26–27, just a few days before the planned second round of the presidential election (June 1). Duda and Nawrocki are expected to speak at the event,”

 Wyborcza writes today.

The newspaper even attempts to convince readers that “PiS politicians are eager for J.D. Vance’s presence”—hoping the U.S. Vice President might reprise his historic speech from Munich.

“If Vance were to criticize Tusk’s government while in Poland and express support for PiS and its presidential candidate, Nawrocki’s campaign could once again gain traction,”

 GW speculates.
