EU May Exempt Poland from Migration Pact, Report Claims — Hours Before Planned Protest

Shortly before today’s demonstration expressing opposition to the Migration Pact and the EU-Mercosur agreement, RMF published a report claiming that the European Union has exempted Poland from the pact. The information has not been confirmed by Maciej Duszczyk, the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration responsible for migration issues, but Civic Coalition (KO) politicians are already using the report to attack the Law and Justice (PiS) initiative.

“If this is confirmed, it will mean that the pressure from our political camp, along with the determination and actions of President Karol Nawrocki, has produced the desired results,” said Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS parliamentary caucus.

Today at 2:00 p.m., a large demonstration organized by Law and Justice is scheduled to take place at Castle Square in Warsaw, protesting against the Migration Pact and the EU-Mercosur agreement, which is planned to be signed in December.

It should also be recalled that on October 15, the European Commission is expected to present its plans for next year regarding the first mass relocations of illegal migrants. It is precisely against such policies that thousands of Poles intend to protest. From early Saturday morning, buses carrying demonstrators opposing the Migration Pact and the Mercosur agreement have been heading to Warsaw.

Saturday’s News: Poland Exempted from the Migration Pact

On Saturday morning, the RMF24.pl portal published an article by the station’s Brussels correspondent, Katarzyna Szymańska-Borginon, titled:

“Unofficial: Poland Exempted from Migrant Relocation and Financial Obligations.”

The author asserts that Poland is to be excluded from the EU Migration Pact due to “the enormous number of refugees received from Ukraine.” Poland would thus not participate in the mechanism of so-called mandatory solidarity. The final decision is expected next week.

“I cannot confirm this information,” said Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. He added that the Polish government had “truly done everything possible” to convince the European Commission of its arguments regarding the Migration Pact.

On Friday, Markus Lammert, a representative of the European Commission, stated that the EC “takes into account the tremendous effort” made by Poland, “which has been hosting a large number of Ukrainian refugees for over three years.”

“If This Is Confirmed…”

The RMF report sparked reactions among Law and Justice politicians.

“If this is confirmed, it will mean that the pressure from our political camp and the determination and actions of President Karol Nawrocki have produced the expected results. Let’s gather in large numbers today at Castle Square in Warsaw at 2:00 p.m. to protest together, among other things, against illegal migration. There’s a chance that, despite the government’s passivity, we can stop the Migration Pact!” wrote Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS parliamentary club, on social media.

“Pressure works, but we must keep watching them closely,” emphasized PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek.

“President Nawrocki’s actions are bringing results! We have a chance to stop the Migration Pact despite the government’s complete ineptitude in this matter! See you at 2:00 p.m. at Castle Square in Warsaw!” posted Mateusz Kurzejewski on X on October 11, 2025.

The President’s Letter Did Not Go Unnoticed?

The presidential camp stated that “this is precisely why Karol Nawrocki’s victory was necessary.”

“If this information is true, the decision concerns next year. Nonetheless, we must continue to fight for the withdrawal from the Migration Pact,” wrote Paweł Szefernaker, head of the President’s Cabinet, on social media.

On October 7, President Karol Nawrocki sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, addressing the issue of the Migration Pact. The President emphasized that the Commission was “facing crucial decisions in the near future” and informed her that “Poland will not agree to any actions by EU institutions aimed at relocating illegal migrants to Poland.” He added that he hoped the EC President would take this stance into account in her decisions.

A Flood of Posts on KO Accounts

It is worth noting that shortly before Saturday’s demonstration, the Civic Coalition (KO) launched a campaign aimed at blaming the Law and Justice government for migration into Poland. Numerous KO MPs posted on X about a “visa bazaar,” a “visa business,” and similar accusations.

Moreover, KO politicians are already referencing the RMF report, even though their own government’s deputy minister has not confirmed its accuracy.

One such post appeared on the account of Zbigniew Konwiński, head of the Civic Coalition parliamentary caucus.

The PiS MP Radosław Fogiel also commented on KO’s online campaign.
