First the elections, then the migrants. Is Tusk’s team playing the waiting game?

There are numerous indications suggesting that the issue of the Migration Pact has been “put on hold” during the presidential campaign in Poland. Nevertheless, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has shared on social media a specific piece of evidence…

Are they waiting for the end of the campaign?

Not long ago, reports surfaced in the media—reports echoing through the corridors of Brussels—that the Migration Pact has been frozen for the duration of the presidential campaign in Poland. The entire machinery is expected to resume immediately afterward, especially if Rafał Trzaskowski were to become the successor of Andrzej Duda. As has often been pointed out, in such a scenario, the system would reach completion.

Concrete Evidence

Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, former head of Polish diplomacy, published a post online in which he summarized the events in the parliamentary committee on EU affairs. The term “suspicious” would be an understatement…

Between June 8–10 this year, the Sejm will host the most important parliamentary meeting of Poland’s EU Council Presidency—the so-called COSAC. As Vice-Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee, I am working on conclusions that are to be adopted at this meeting. As part of this effort, I submitted an amendment pointing out the impossibility of implementing the Migration Pact—particularly the mechanism of so-called mandatory solidarity (relocation). This amendment was rejected, but not by other countries—rather, by Chairwoman Agnieszka Pomaska from Civic Platform (PO), who represents the Polish Presidency in these parliamentary proceedings,

— writes the politician.

He reiterated: “A PO Member of Parliament representing the Polish Presidency discarded the clause regarding the impossibility of implementing the Migration Pact, including the mechanism of mandatory solidarity (relocation), even before any other country had a chance to express its opinion on the matter.”

If it were truly the intention of Civic Platform, Donald Tusk, and Rafał Trzaskowski to block the implementation of the Migration Pact, then the Polish Presidency of the EU would be the fundamental instrument for achieving that goal — reads the continuation of Szynkowski vel Sęk’s post.

Is Tusk’s team in favor of the Migration Pact?

Unfortunately, we have long known that, contrary to their declarations, they do want to implement the Migration Pact, which they themselves adopted in December 2023 and May 2024. However, as noted by an RMF correspondent in Brussels and German journalists, the work on this matter has been suspended for the duration of the election campaign

– warns the politician.

He further writes: “On the domestic stage, they feign criticism, but on the EU stage, they are incapable of expressing even a single word of dissent. That is why the public must know the truth about this matter. They don’t want the public to know, which is why, for three months, they froze a parliamentary resolution proposed by Law and Justice (PiS) for the unilateral withdrawal from the Migration Pact. Only after being compelled by our formal motion will they finally be forced to address the resolution tomorrow in the EU Affairs Committee.”

Karol Nawrocki as a guarantee

In conclusion, Szynkowski vel Sęk underscores the importance of the upcoming presidential election.

The truth, however, is that the only truly effective barrier to the implementation of these disastrously harmful proposals—proposals they are agreeing to—could be Karol Nawrocki, after a victorious presidential election. He not only holds a clear position on the matter but also demonstrates the determination to stop the government’s catastrophic actions. This is why these elections are of such critical importance.
