“I call on my successor to take immediate action and stop talking. He’s sitting there in his prime minister’s villa, sitting right now, smoking a cigar and doing nothing, laughing behind the backs of Polish farmers,” said Mateusz Morawiecki, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, during a press conference in Siennica.
Morawiecki calls on Tusk
The opposition is sounding the alarm over the increasingly dire situation in Polish agriculture. Today, a press conference with members of Law and Justice (PiS) was held at one of the farms in the Siennica municipality.
“The Polish farmer must be respected. What’s happening in the Polish countryside today cries out to heaven. We talked today about problems in various sectors of Polish agriculture, but the entire internet is flooded with pictures and videos showing clearly that the cost of producing vegetables like peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and even potatoes is so high that the purchase prices don’t even cover the basic costs. And I don’t hesitate to say that this situation is extremely painful today,” said Mateusz Morawiecki, former Polish Prime Minister.
In his view, “we’re facing a tragedy, tears in the Polish countryside, and the government must finally get to work.”
He also called on Donald Tusk’s government “to get to work.”
“I’m calling for immediate action so that all these vegetables stop rotting, so that we don’t have to deal with the phenomenon of self-harvesting. Today, farmers are calling for self-harvesting – come, pick, because otherwise it will all rot,” he said.
He also spoke about Donald Tusk, head of the December 13 coalition, personally urging him to take action in support of Polish farmers.
“I call on my successor to take immediate action and stop talking. He’s sitting there in his prime minister’s villa, sitting right now, smoking a cigar and doing nothing, laughing behind the backs of Polish farmers. Show some respect, Mr. Tusk, for the Polish farmer,” appealed Morawiecki.
Continuing, he said, “Where are you, Mr. Tusk? You should be with Polish farmers today. The Germans, the French, the Austrians are subsidizing their exported goods. When there was a problem with Ukrainian grain being imported, we made a decision back then with Robert [Telus] – we blocked it against the entire EU.”
