New Space Observation Center Opened in Bezmiechowa

Polish Space Agency opens a state-of-the-art Space Observation Center in Bezmiechowa, advancing satellite tracking and space safety.

On October 3, 2024, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) officially opened the Space Observation Center in Bezmiechowa, located at the Rzeszów University of Technology’s Gliding Center. The facility aims to enhance space observation capabilities, including tracking artificial satellites and supporting educational efforts.

    Advanced Observation Systems

The center is equipped with four robotic telescope stations, including components of the Optical Fence system, which will monitor satellites on LEO/HLEO orbits. The center’s cutting-edge Automated Optical Space Object Observation and Tracking System (ASOPEK) is designed to detect space debris and unidentified satellites.

    Future Development

Funded by the Ministry of Development and Technology, the observatory is set to expand with additional optical instruments and a clamshell dome. It plays a key role in the international Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) partnership, further strengthening Poland’s space security infrastructure.

With this center, POLSA and Rzeszów University will train future space industry professionals, making Bezmiechowa an important site for aerospace innovation.
