In a recent announcement, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki declared that, as promised, the A1 highway would be toll-free starting from September. This decision marks a significant change in the country’s highway toll policies, providing relief to motorists and boosting accessibility.
Previously, the A1 highway, connecting Gdańsk to Toruń, was exempt from tolls only during the summer vacation period. However, the new development ensures that travelers can now use the highway without incurring charges year-round, starting from September.

Weekend Toll Relief
Before this change, drivers could enjoy toll-free travel on the A1 highway only during weekends, from Friday at 12:00 PM to Monday at 12:00 PM. This was a popular option for those seeking to save on transportation costs during their leisure trips.
This isn’t the only toll relief initiative in Poland. As of July 1, 2023, vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons can also travel toll-free on the A2 Konin-Stryków and A4 Wrocław-Sośnica highways. These measures aim to ease the financial burden on both commuters and tourists.
