Poland to Face Georgia in Crucial Davis Cup Relegation Playoff

Poland’s national tennis team will face Georgia in a high-stakes away match early next year as they battle to secure their spot in the Davis Cup World Group I. The playoff draw, conducted on Monday at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) headquarters in London, has set the stage for this pivotal encounter, which will take place between January 31 and February 2, 2024.

As the host nation, Georgia will determine whether the two-day contest will be held from January 31 to February 1 (Friday-Saturday) or February 1-2 (Saturday-Sunday). They will also have the advantage of choosing the match venue and the type of court surface.

Poland’s road to this playoff has been a rollercoaster. In February 2023, they earned a dominant 4-0 win over Uzbekistan, which secured their promotion to World Group I. However, in September, they suffered a 1-3 defeat to South Korea, ranked 21st globally, in a tie held in Zielona Góra. This loss now forces them to fight for their place in the group.
