The Polish government, through Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, has announced the extension of the zero VAT rate on food until the end of 2023, providing relief for Polish families and protecting them from rising prices.

The Polish government has decided to extend the zero VAT rate on food until the end of 2023, as Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on social media. Initially set to expire on June 30th, this measure will now remain in effect throughout the year.

According to the Prime Minister’s statement, the government aims to reduce taxes wherever possible to minimize the financial burden on Polish families. The extension of the zero VAT rate on food aligns with this objective, providing much-needed relief to households across the country.

Key Categories Covered by Government Initiatives

Prime Minister Morawiecki emphasized that the government’s initiatives encompass essential categories such as fuel, energy, and food, aiming to shield Polish citizens from price increases. These measures are part of the government’s comprehensive plan to support the economy and alleviate the impact of inflation.

The government’s decision to extend the zero VAT rate on food until the end of the year received praise from government spokesperson Piotr Müller. He highlighted a significant decrease in the inflation rate since February, with May’s rate reaching 13%. The government aims to achieve single-digit inflation in the remaining months of the year.

Müller explained that the extension of the zero VAT rate on food does not require legislative changes as it can be implemented through regulatory modifications. The zero VAT rate on food was initially introduced in January 2022 under the second Anti-Inflation Shield, which also included reduced VAT rates for fuel and electricity.
