Polish Post is drifting toward disaster. Union members expose absurdities and appeal for help

A dangerous trend in the “transformation” of Polish Post (Poczta Polska S.A.). Union members sound the alarm – the transformation of this strategic company is heading toward catastrophe. At the same time, state security is at risk. “Poland is losing the ability to respond quickly in situations of crisis and threats to national security,” union representatives wrote.

For several months, tensions have been running high within Polish Post. The national postal operator, of strategic importance for Poland, is undergoing a serious crisis under its new management, which, in the view of union members, may lead to major problems.

The Communications Section of the Forum of Trade Unions sent a letter to the new Minister of State Assets, Wojciech Balczun, listing the most pressing issues. The letter mentioned the prevailing “pathologies and chaos” within the company.

The Voluntary Departure Program was offered to 8,500 employees. At the same time, workers pointed out that in those very same units, new staff were being hired in their place.

In addition, branches have begun operating with limited hours, and mail carriers now deliver letters every two days. Couriers delivering parcels were encouraged to switch to self-employment. Polish Post explained that it was responding to changes, pointing out that fewer and fewer people choose to send traditional letters.

A dangerous direction of action

The Presidium of the Intercompany Commission of Solidarity (NSZZ Solidarność) in a letter addressed to the President of Poland, members of parliament, and members of the European Parliament, speaks directly of the ongoing marginalization of the Polish operator. They pointed out that preparations are underway to spin off, among other things, the security division into a separate company. This department is crucial to the functioning of infrastructure of strategic importance to the state. Polish Post, through its Security Division, carries out tasks in the area of national security,” the letter stated.

It was further indicated that these competences would be handed over to external entities. It was also noted that more than 6,000 vehicles, which had been available to the state in the event of war, were eliminated.

“Poland is losing the ability to respond quickly in situations of crisis and threats to national security,” the statement emphasized.
