Tomasz Gollob, the iconic figure of Polish speedway, celebrates his 53rd birthday today. Born in Bydgoszcz, Gollob’s journey in speedway began in 1993 when he made his debut in the Individual Speedway World Championship finals. However, it was in 1995, under the new Grand Prix format, that Gollob made history by winning the inaugural Grand Prix event held in Wrocław.

A Legacy of Triumphs

Throughout his illustrious career, Gollob amassed a remarkable record of seven World Championship titles, clinching the individual crown in 2010 and six team titles. He also dominated the Polish Speedway scene, securing numerous national titles.

Injury and Road to Recovery

In April 2017, tragedy struck when Gollob suffered a severe spinal injury during a motocross training session in Chełmno. The accident left him with spinal damage, fractured ribs, and lung contusions, necessitating extensive surgery and induced coma.

Honors and Recognition

Gollob’s legacy extends beyond the racetrack, with streets and murals in Bydgoszcz bearing his name and likeness, respectively. His 53 podium finishes, including 22 victories, attest to his unparalleled skill and resilience in the face of adversity.
